LASU CONFERENCE 2017.
After 33 years since its inception, The Linguistics Association
of SADC Universities returns to a place where it was born.
LASU was established in 1984 at University of Malawi,
Chancellor College.
In 2017, LASU makes a nostalgic return to the place of its
birth where the Faculty of Humanities will hold the XIVth
LASU Conference from 14-15 September 2017.

Association was driven by the urge by various
academics that gathered in Chancellor College’s
Great Hall from the 19th to the 21st of November
1984 to “work in close cooperation” with various
governments and organisations ...
The Faculty of Humanities at Chancellor College,
a constituent college of the University of Malawi,
comprises eight academic departments, namely African
Languages and Linguistics, Classics, English,
Fine and Performing Arts, French, Language and
Communication Skills, Philosophy, and Theology
and Religious Studies.

Chancellor College is the largest among the constituent
colleges of the University of Malawi. In the year 1973,
the college was relocated from Blantyre to Zomba,
where it rests in the shadow of the majestic Zomba Mountain,
home to flora, fauna and myth.
The college prides itself on its commitment to the achieving
of sustainable social, economic and technological
development in Malawi. This is an objective that is
met through the continued – and ever increasing – supply
of the society with well-educated graduates in a variety
of disciplines, as well as through innovative research
